35 Before 35 Update

26th October 2015

Over two years ago I wrote my 35 before 35 list. I was 28 at the time (aahh that sounds so young now!) and so as I am now 31 and edging ever closer to the dreaded 35 I thought I would write a little update on how I am going with my list.

I haven’t really done very well I don’t think! I have really only managed to cross off a few things and they are mostly things that I completed without trying.

I crossed two things out at once when my sister got married in Portugal – be a bridesmaid and take Ava for her first holiday abroad. Both lovely ones to have checked off; it was an amazing week. That happened over two years ago now.

I also got married, and so have crossed that off my list! (I was actually engaged when I wrote the last post – I wasn’t just desperate to get married!!).

Getting married 30 before 30

Another lovely one that I got to cross off a long time ago was to hear Ava say “I love you mummy”. Obviously I’ve heard it many times since then, but it still always melts my heart, especially when she just comes out with it herself. I’m very grateful I get to hear my daughter say that to me.

Hearing my daughter say 'I love you'

I did (a lot!) of karaoke at my friends hen do again a couple of years ago. It was a twenties themed hen do and there were a lot of cocktails and it was a brilliant night. I wore a blue tasseled dress that got me stuck to everything and everyone all night but I bloody loved it. It was very good for dancing in. In fact my (in need of updating) Twitter profile picture is from that night. People seem to think I’m wearing some kind of hat, but it’s actually a twenties headband.

I’ve only actually crossed one other thing off my list, and that is to get in the best shape of my life. I kind of have anyway. This year I am definitely more toned than I have ever been. I have shape to my arms and decent muscles, the same on my legs, and I have stomach muscles. It makes me feel a lot better about myself. I want to be slim and strong not skinny which is a nice place to be at. My body isn’t perfect and definitely less so since going away for a month and eating all the white bread, aaand I’ve struggled to make myself exercise since getting back and just wanting to curl up in my pyjamas. But I’m still generally happier with my body than I’ve ever been. It can certainly be improved and I do want to feel even better about it; my bingo wings can do one for a start.

35 before 35 list

Of the things that I haven’t yet done, some will hopefully be completed within the next three years, but some I just don’t think have a chance.

I will hopefully have another baby. I would be incredibly sad if I hadn’t managed that by the time I’m 35. We for sure better have moved house by then, especially as I’m desperate to move now. I would also like to take a road trip across America, and I guess it is possible, but probably unlikely.

Another one on my list was to ‘Learn to be happy with who I am and stop comparing myself to others.’ Hmm, I’m working on it, and sometimes I feel closer to it that at other times. But generally, no I am not entirely happy with myself yet. Give me some proper sleep, and a bit of time to myself and maybe I would be.

Taking my children to Disneyworld in Florida is another strong possibility in the next couple of years, which would be amazing. And I’m really hoping that I will get the chance to attend a blogging conference in the next couple of years. I’d love to experience one and meet some of the lovely bloggers I chat to online.

I’m still not succeeding with ‘Have good health – no more migraines, no more operations’. I am getting regular migraines at the moment, and last year my consultant talked about me having all of my reproductive organs out at 40 as a precaution – so definitely a #fail there! Ha ha.

I did kiind of learn to play the piano, when I reviewed ‘Piano in a Flash‘, but unfortunately I haven’t continued with it, so that’s still a big dream of mine. Learning to salsa is also still a huge dream.

I also haven’t yet met my step-niece Caitlyn who lives in New Zealand, and since I wrote that post she has gained a little brother too. It makes me sad that I haven’t met them and that they haven’t met Ava; hopefully in the next couple of years we will all manage to get together.

So I’ve still got lots to cross off on my 35 before 35 list, but (hopefully!) I have plenty of time. I should maybe have made it a 40 before 40 list as that would have been more realistic. I’ve crossed a few big one’s off though so that’s ok! It’s not like it’s a list that has to be completed, but as it’s all stuff that I really want to do then it’s nice to have done at least some of it.

Have you ever written one of these lists? What kind of things would you put on it if you did?

  1. This is a beautiful post, the words, the pictures, the sentiments… all of it is beautiful! I’m so glad you’ve crossed off the ones you have, they’re biggies! I just wish you the best of luck in achieving the rest of your goals.
It’s a good idea this list, maybe i might do a 30 before 30 one (I’m still only 27 so plenty of time to get things done!).
    Fab! Love Ally x

Cross ‘going to a blogging conference’ off your list.. Bloggers are bellends (aside from me).

  3. This list sounds like a great idea! From reading this post it sounds to me like you’ve actually made quite a lot of progress with your list and you’ve still got four years to go!! Hope you manage to cross of some more stuff including feeling better and having another baby (exciting!) 🙂

  4. I really need to write a list like this – I think it will help me focus on what I actually want to achieve rather then just bumbling along! Great update post x

I have a 23 things to do whilst I’m 23 (which is only for another two months!) and I’ve also started a list on 101 things to do in 1001 days. I know I won’t be able to get them all done, but it’s a great way to ensure you’re doing things you want to do. So don’t be sad that you’ve not crossed everything off your list, be excited for all the amazing things you have done! Good luck for the rest 🙂 xxx

I like the idea of it and I think goal setting is important but I don’t think I could live with the pressure! Love your list though, looking forward to some shots of Paris 🙂
