A Cadbury World Christmas

1st December 2015

Last week my family and I took a little trip to Birmingham to visit Cadbury World where we had been invited to their Christmas blogger event.

Birmingham is only just over an hour away from us but I had never actually been to Cadbury World before, and Ava was so excited to be going somewhere that involved chocolate AND Santa!

We arrived and met up with the other lovely bloggers in the cafeteria, Ava ate her first ever cupcake for breakfast, and then we were taken to see the brand new Santa show. Most of the kids ran and sat in front of the stage (Ava wouldn’t!) and then Santa came down the chimney! He did some magic, talked about all the reindeer and got the kids and the audience really involved. The kids all really enjoyed it and joined in, and at fifteen minutes it was just the right length for them. As we left every child got a lovely little teddy and carried them round for the rest of the day!

After that all of the kids went for a play on the brilliant adventure playground. Cadbury World have a great one for older kids and then another one for the smaller ones, so we all stood around freezing our socks off and chatting whilst they burnt off some energy (and being a bit jealous that we’re not kids).

This was actually the first ever blogging event that I have been able to go to, and it was really lovely meeting some other bloggers, two in particular who I have become good friends with recently, and their lovely children. Sometimes the blogging world can feel a bit lonely when everyone else seems to have their group of blogging friends, so it’s been really nice to bridge the gap between my blogging world and my real one.

After chatting we queued up to take a ride in a cool lift to go to see a 4D movie that featured characters from Cadbury’s chocolate such as the Caraaaamel bunny and Freddo! We were taken on the ‘Crunchie Rollercoaster’ which was absolutely brilliant. Our chairs moved and it actually felt like we were on a rollercoaster and flying through the air! I was actually a bit worried that Ava might be a bit scared as it really felt (to me anyway!) that we were at times going down a massive drop on a rollercoaster – but she loved it! It reminded me a lot of a ride at Disney World – it was done so well, and I wish it was a bit longer – although it was probably the perfect amount of time for the littles.

We then all went back to the Cadbury Cafe and were treated to an amazing brunch that of course included lots of chocolatey treats! Ava ate her second cupcake of the day (she was in heaven – sausages, pizza and then more chocolate – her favourite things!) and we all had a rest with our families. The Cadbury Cafe has a special festive menu on over the Christmas period, and the Christmas shop has lots of special festive chocolates like a festive Penguin and a chocolate Christmas tree.

After filling up with food we all went to see the Christmas pantomime – ‘Sleeping Beauty and the Chuckle Bean Fairy’. The show is on for thirty minutes and there are five different times each weekend day. The kids all loved the show; it was really fun and interactive. The seating was all quite cosy and there wasn’t loads of room, but it was fine, especially because I was sat in between two men 😉 Ava sat on my knee and booed the witch and got very animated, it was really funny to watch her, and she loved it. The actors were all very good and great at getting the audience involved – Ava was talking about ‘Silly Billy’ for a long time afterwards!

After that we were free to wander around the chocolate factory by ourselves. We visited the World’s biggest Cadbury Shop where I bought a load of chocolate for Christmas, and Ava asked if she could have everything in sight. Then we queued for about ten minutes as it had got a bit busier by then, and were given a big handful of chocolate bars to take with us.

In the chocolate factory we got to watch a couple of videos all about Cadbury history then wander around looking at all the machines. We had a photo taken in front of a green screen, had some melted chocolate in a pot with two toppings of our choice (Ava had crunchie pieces and popping candy and destroyed it!) and went on a short kids ride which Ava enjoyed. We kind of rushed round the factory as we were all really tired by that time after an early morning and lots of fun.

Christmas at Cadbury World is on every Saturday and Sunday from now until the 20th December, and then also on the 22nd and 23rd December. It is all included in the usual ticket price – so it’s a great time to go. It’s a good idea to pre-book as the dates are filling up.

We were invited to Cadbury World but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
