Blonde Hair, Don’t Care

9th July 2015

I haven’t actually told anyone this yet, not even the husband-to-very-very-soon-be, but after I get married I am planning on going blonde for the first time ever!

Going from dark hair to blonde.

I have always had dark brown hair, and apart from a few trips over to red with temporary home dyes I have never changed my hair colour. I also never thought I wanted to be blonde. Everyone and his dark-haired dog seems to have at least a little bit of blonde in their dark hair – ombre has been big for a while now, and then there was balyage, and whilst I think it often looks lovely, I was quite happy on the dark side. I presumed it suited me as it’s what I was born with (why I can’t think that about any other part of my body I don’t know) and I didn’t want to be another brunette going blonde and loving it.

But now? Well, I’m ready for a change. What if it really suits me, and I suddenly look like Margot Robbie (see below) all of a sudden? I’m definitely willing to take the risk in case that happens. I think it’s the perfect time to try it – the wedding will be out of the way and I won’t be pregnant (I don’t think!) and it could be really nice (if it suits me of course) to be all blonde and summery for our month long trip to Spain and Portugal.

I want to get it done not too long after the wedding so that if I detest it then I can go back to the dark side before we go away. I don’t want to hate how I look on all of our photos of our amazing trip. I’m pretty nervous; I always said I wouldn’t ever go blonde without trying a wig on first to see if it suited me, but I don’t know where I can go to do that so I’m going to be daring for once!

I don’t want just a little bit of blonde either. I think I need to keep dark roots but I want to be properly blonde. I might as well try it once in my life hadn’t I? My hairdresser told me that people are always more daring with their cut (including me) than their colour, and he doesn’t understand why because you can’t stick hair back on can you, but you can dye it back very quickly! That’s so true! I have always tried different haircuts and have gone short lots of times, including once really, really short (looked like a boy with half a square fringe), but I have never experimented very much with my colour. Now it’s time to change that!

Wish me luck!

Do you think blonde hair could suit me or do you think it would look awful?!

Ooh, I can’t wait to see it! You are so right about the cut/colour thing and it’s nice to try something different every once in a while, isn’t it? I think you’ll look gorgeous! 🙂 xx

I think hair colour is such an exciting thing to experiment with. I’m naturally very fair and have coloured my hair from the age of 14. I kept going lighter till my early 20s but then went dark & have never looked back. I look forward to being able to afford to play with my colour a bit more.

Woohoo! You thinking a honey blonde or whute blonde?! x

  4. Go for it! You can always change it back! I am the same, but I started getting highlights before my wedding, and by the time of my big day my hair was the lightest it has ever been. I really like it but I am not paying for highlights every 6 weeks! You wil look fab. x
