Get Your Family MOVE-ing with VitalityMove and Jessica Ennis-Hill

27th June 2017

VitalityMove is an exciting new family fitness festival created by Jessica Ennis-Hill with Vitality. The first event is in Chatsworth and is now less than a couple of weeks away and I’m so excited to be involved.

VitalityMove combines fitness with music to create a fun festival to get families moving. You can choose to run 10km or 5km distances or just take park in the one mile music-themed circuit, which is perfect for doing with kids.

There is a sports village and a food zone, so it should be a really fun day out. VitalityMove are working with a few ‘Movers’ to train with Jess before the two events (there is going to be another at Windsor next year) and to get people inspired to get involved. DJ Trevor Nelson is doing the music so it should be really good!

I’m going with my family, as well as my sister-in-law and her son and I’m really looking forward to it. We’re all going to take part in the fun music miles (particularly the Disney music themed one!), and then I’m also going to do the 5K, whilst everyone else enjoys the wonderful location, the sods.

Ava thinks it’s great fun to exercise a bit with me, so we’ve been doing a few little bits together to get ready for the event! It’s really helped me to get back exercising, and to start running a little bit again, which is brilliant.

The first VitalityMove event, which is on Sunday 9th July is at Chatsworth which is a truly stunning venue in Derbyshire, perfect for running and having a great day out with your family. You can get tickets here.  Prices vary based on the distance you run, and if you just fancy a fun day out with your family then you could just join in with the music miles, and kids under 15 are free. Plus see below for a discount!

VitalityMove interviewed me about the festival and fitness, so I thought I would share my answers here!

Which run will you be running at VitalityMove (1-mile, 5k or 10k)?

I have been pretty rubbish at exercising lately, so I’m hoping to get out running as much as possible before the festival, and then join in with the 5K, as well as also having some fun taking part in the music mile with my family!

What are you most excited for about the VitalityMove event?

I’m excited to have a really fun day with my family – getting outside, taking part in some fun sports and fitness activities, hopefully in the sunshine! My 5-year-old daughter loves copying off me when I’m working out at home, and she took part in ‘Race for Life’ with me last year, so I think she’ll love the festival!

Who will you be bringing with you and who would you like to run with?

I will be bringing my husband, Paul and my daughter, Ava with me, as well as my sister-in-law and her son.

I would love to run with Jess – she might have to hold my hand and pull me along though!

What’s your fitness/running goal before VitalityMove?

A couple of years ago I was the fittest I have ever been; I exercised regularly and felt much more confident and happier with myself, but over the last year or so I have let the routine that I had go. So my goal now is to get back to that place where I had decent muscles and tone and felt good about myself – to work out around five days a week, and start eating more healthily again so that I have more energy, as well as starting to run regularly.

Do you have any other healthy goals that you’d like to achieve this summer?

I would like to get a lot better with my breakfast and lunches, rather than just grabbing something quickly like I have been doing lately; I’d like to make more salads and smoothies again.

I also really want to get outdoors more with my family at the weekends and do lots of walking – to keep up my fitness, whilst having a nice time together, and getting some lovely fresh air.

What are your tips for when the going gets tough (i.e. when you can’t be bothered to get out of bed, to keep running even when you’re tired)?

I think it can be so hard to keep exercising and eating well especially in the winter. I think it helps to find something that you enjoy doing so it’s not such a chore, and hold onto to the fact that you will feel so much better after you have gone for a run or done a workout. Remember that it will get easier, and to never see it as a diet or a temporary fix, but a way of life.

Also, I think it’s important to give yourself a break sometimes – if you’re feeling a bit rubbish or you’re really tired then it’s ok to have a break from exercise.
