Keeping It Simple with Subtle and Sophisticated Wedding Style

26th May 2017

Over the years, weddings have become more and more about going all out. They can be a chance to show off, and to create a party like none you’ve ever been to before. Some couples end up spending the equivalent of a deposit for a home on their wedding. For some, spending a lot on the wedding and being flash isn’t what the day is about. They would rather tone things down a bit and take a more subtle approach. Even if you do want to spend a bit on your wedding, all the bells and whistle might not be your style. If you’re thinking about going subtle and sophisticated with your wedding outfit, try these ideas on for size.

A Dress without the Frills

The first thing you need to think about is your wedding dress. Traditionally, they’re white and often pretty big, with long skirts and trains. However, this has only been the tradition for a relatively short while. If you look at wedding photos from throughout the 20th century, you can find many brides who didn’t wear a white dress or might not even have worn a dress. They wore what they could afford and could possibly wear again. If you like a more subtle style, go for a slimmer fit, rather than anything too poofy or frilly. And consider a shorter dress too, instead of a long and trailing one.

The Right Ring

While your wedding ring isn’t exactly part of your wedding outfit, you will be wearing it for most of the day. Not only that, but you’re going to be wearing it for your whole marriage. So if you’re more of a simple woman when it comes to style, you don’t want anything too flashy. A lot of brides (and grooms) now go for white gold wedding rings. They’re made of a lighter and cooler gold than yellow gold bands, and many prefer them for a more modern look. While you can choose to have diamonds or other stones, a plain band is less likely to catch on anything and will go with just about anything.

Small and Subtle Details

When it comes to accessorising, you might not want to go overboard with jewellery and other touches. You can keep it small and be careful about what you choose to add to your outfit. For example, maybe you could choose to carry a subtle bouquet with only a few flowers, or even just one flower. You might choose some very delicate pieces of jewellery.

Hair and Makeup

There’s also your hair and makeup. If there’s one day when you want to get your hair styled and your makeup done professionally, it’s your wedding day. However, you don’t have to do anything too fancy, especially if you don’t usually wear a lot of makeup or style your hair. A natural makeup look can help you look fresh-faced and youthful on your wedding day, and a simple hairstyle will be easier to do and to maintain throughout the day.

You don’t need to go all out with your wedding outfit if you have more of a subtle style. Do things your way.
