Me and Mine: A Family Portrait Project – April 2015

30th April 2015

April has been a nice month. The sun has been shining (although today it’s really bloody chilly!) which makes everything better and it’s been really nice wearing fewer clothes and feeling the sunshine on our skin.

This month Ava has finally started using the toilet rather than her potty which is great! I have been trying for a while to get her to use the loo but she always fought it a lot and seemed quite scared of it and so I didn’t want to push it and make it worse. I finally persuaded her to go when we were out at a restaurant and a couple of days later she was finally happy to go at home and almost straight away she became very confident with it and now does it all by herself. Hurrah!

That was actually perfect timing because she has started nursery this month – it is her first full day as I am writing this (Tuesday). She has loved it so far; she barely glanced at me to say goodbye and didn’t want to leave at the end! She has been really looking forward to going again this week, which is lovely. I think she is so ready for it and so am I! I will finally get some time to myself to blog, get further with our wedding planning, and catch up with housework and clear the entire house out ready to hopefully move soon.  Particularly exciting is the fact I get to go to the loo all by myself whenever I want!!! No-one grabbing at my legs, deciding they have to come with me, and then going reallllly slowly up the stairs and then whinging until I’m finished. And a hot cup of tea! HOT! I’m pretty excited.

Her going to nursery will be really good for both of us I think. I love her so much (obviously), but I very rarely get much of a break from being a mummy. I always feel overwhelmed with how much I need to do and then spend most of the time feeling guilty that I haven’t had chance to play with her. And she is definitely ready to have other boys and girls her age to play with regularly as well as learning to follow a few rules from people other than mean mummy.

This month we have been for a few nice walks in the sunshine, and on one of those walks these photos were taken. A new country park has opened up near us so when the sunshine appeared at the beginning of the month we took a nice stroll around it and had our first ice-creams of the year.

May is going to be a crazy busy month for us. On Saturday it is the boy’s Nottingham Stag do and then he is also having another one in a few of weeks in Poland. I have my Nottingham Hen do at the end of the month, and we also have our pre-wedding photo shoot in a couple of weeks. The boy is also going to be away with work for a few days next week too, so we are going to get very little time together this month, which we are not used to at all. It’s not ideal when we have loads of wedding planning we need to do together. We do have a little evening together booked in together later in the month so that will be nice.

Our photos for April….

Me and Mine - AprilOur family in April

I think somebody must have told us all to do big cheesy grins in the first photo, and pose in the second! It’s funny that we look so happy in them, because Ava mostly nagged for an ice-cream all the way round and had a mardy when we said she needed to wait until the end of the walk!

I kind of feel like I am getting a bit better at sharing photos on my blog of myself that I am not completely happy with, and ‘Me and Mine’ is helping me do that. The fact that a photo is one of all of us and we are together and happy is the most important thing and will mean the most looking back in years to come. Of course I still pick the one’s where we (particularly I) look best in, but I am starting to be ok with them not being perfect.

I hope you have had a lovely April, and have an even better May!

What lovely close ups of your gorgeous family. I love a good close up and wish I could get more with my two but they are the type to need to run around to take family photos. lol lovely #meandmine

    • Thank you Jenny. Its funny you should say that because I have been thinking the opposite and really want some of our photos to be taken from further away, but I never remember to set the tripod up or get someone else to take some of us! xx

I think they’re both lovely photos! It sounds like you have some exciting times ahead and I’ll join you in the hurrah for little ones learning to use the toilet not the potty – it seems to cut down so much cleaning!!

I know what you mean about putting yourself in front of the camera! It really does help doing this project as you see a family shot and something I never use to do. I am now loving having these photos to look back at.
