On Monday evening I went to my first ever yoga class. I’ve been wanting to go to a proper yoga class for a while now but I hadn’t been able to find one that was at a time I could attend. I’ve recently been to a couple of Pilates classes at my local leisure centre, and whilst they were quite good they weren’t exactly what I wanted. I was looking for a class that was very relaxing as well as being good for the body and taken quite seriously. The pilates class wasn’t really taken that seriously (that’s fine but not what I was after) and obviously being a leisure centre the facilities aren’t the best.
The yoga class on Monday was brilliant. It was exactly what I wanted. It was at my local gym (that I have just joined), they have a designated yoga room, the teacher holds yoga retreats abroad, there was proper yoga-type music, dimmed lighting and ohmming and everything. I felt very chilled out, despite being at the front and centre of the class (worst nightmare – but it was actually fine once the lights were dimmed and we focused on our mats).
I’m so happy I have found a class that I love, and I’m actually looking foward to going again on Monday. Of course, it’s still hard making myself go out into the cold, dark and quite often rainy night when I could be snuggled up at home, but it’s a lot easier when it’s for something good. I actually did feel more relaxed after my class and less head-spinny than usual, and if something can tame my crazy active mind then I will be a very very happy bunny. And if I get the best yoga-bod you have ever seen as a nice side-effect, then I won’t complain either.
