My Style, and a Mummy and Daughter Outfit of the Day

16th June 2015

I have been wanting to share the odd Outfit of the Day for a while now. I love fashion and clothes and the way a great outfit can give you a confidence boost. As a mummy I do end up throwing on skinny jeans, a t-shirt and converse a lot more often that I would like, especially for the school run, but I find it a lot easier to make an effort and wear more interesting clothes in the summer.

I love simple outfits and styles, so I tend to not accessorize too much, and I love really simple t-shirt dresses that I can throw on with a denim jacket. I love loose baggy styles, even though they may not be the most flattering; but they are comfy, stylish, and don’t give you a muffin top. I love a casual, cool and effortless style rather than one that is very put together and elegant – but maybe that’s partly because I’m a mess and always late so don’t have the time to put a perfect outfit together and accessorize it properly!

In summer if I want to wear trousers I still tend to stick to jeans (I especially love my white one’s!), so this year I am trying to branch out a bit and wear some lovely summery trousers. I have a few pairs but I didn’t have any that were just really easy to throw on and be happy with. I love these floral trousers from Topshop in the photos; I often end up wearing a lot of neutrals, especially on the bottom, so I love that I can wear these with a plain top and feel like I have make a bit more effort but am still casual. Annoyingly they are a little long for me – in these pictures they were turned up once, but I think they could have done with being turned up again to be more flattering. Unfortunately turning them up means they are not as tapered at the bottom as I would like, but I still really like them. I actually bought them in a black and white style that are a better length on me and I should be able to wear them with a lot more colours, but I haven’t actually worn them yet.

I am terrible at posing and I hate 99% of pictures of me, so it was tough choosing which of these to share. I also think I look so much better in the mirror than on camera, which is really annoying as if I feel good in something and then see a crappy picture it makes me feel a bit rubbish. Does anyone else ever think that you look ok in something until you see a picture of yourself? I don’t think I look great in any of these photos, but I love other people’s style posts and seeing what other people are wearing and how they put an outfit together, so I really want to share some of my own. I also need to get better at getting the boy to snap a few shots when we are out at the weekend if I like my outfit. I have been planning to do some style posts for a looong time, so hopefully it won’t be another year before I do my next one!

Ava is wearing mostly Next clothes as usual. The bunny leggings, blue top and denim jacket are all Next and her shoes are from John Lewis. The poses are all the models own. I love cropped leggings for her this year, and Next do quite a few different pairs. I especially love them for nursery because they are comfy for her, are a lot more summery than full-length leggings and they look really cute. I love the blue sleeveless top she is wearing here. It is loose and pretty and easy to throw on with anything – haha I’m clearly lazy and like lazy clothes!

I am wearing the Topshop trousers, a plain black v-neck t-shirt from asos, a denim jacket from Zara Kids section from last year, and super duper duper old flip-floppy sandals from Office. I have had these shoes for about ten years and they are the one’s I always go back to in the summer as they go with anything and are reasonably comfy. I really want to find some that are plain and simple, quick to put on and go with anything so that I can replace these, but whenever I think I have found some potential ones they never end up being the replacements I want them to be, and I go back to these.

What do you think – should I do more Outfit of the Day’s and Style posts? I know I am not the most stylish person, but I do love clothes and fashion.

Major life lesson -the versatility of a great denim jacket! Ava’s a great little poser 🙂

  3. I love your trousers. I’ve been looking for a brighter pair as I am stuck wearing the same old dark trousers/jeans. These are such lovely photos, I really like the one where you are cuddling. I love your little girl’s shoes. My daughter would be very envious of them! #MyFavouritePost

    • I am normally the same Bek – black skinny jeans all the damn time! Thank you. Those shoes have been great, she’s really comfy in them which doesn’t seem to happen often x
