Notes on December

30th December 2016

So it’s the end of December now. All that preparing and planning for Christmas is over, and it’s almost a new year. The first few weeks of this month were pretty shitty with all the illness we had, turning into an old lady and hurting my neck, and trying to keep up (and failing) with everything Christmas and blog-wise. It kind of felt like I was living a weird sped-up dream life for a few weeks there.

But we had a lovely Christmas and as always it went super fast. Ava had a brilliant time, and was massively spoilt by everyone. Her favourite presents were a cot bed for her dolly, and this VTech Kidizoom Camera – she hasn’t stopped taking pictures of us yet, including some lovely ones of my (clothed) bum up close. She thinks she’s hilarious. She also got tons of LEGO so we spent Boxing Day building the LEGO Friends Heartlake Riding Set that she got from my sister, which is pretty cool.

I got loads of lovely stuff, including Sali Hughes newest book ‘Pretty Iconic’ and ‘Face’ by the Pixiwoo sisters, which I’m looking forward to flicking through. I also got sent a Go Pro for a project I’m working on, which kind of felt like an early Christmas present, so I’m excited to try that out in lots of fun ways.

Right now we’re in Whitby for a few days over New Year and Ava’s 5th birthday, so I’m hoping for plenty of time to relax, read a book, and get lots of fresh air and family time. It sounds really sad but I’m very pleased that my new phone is actually getting a bit of a signal at the cottage, so I can still get my social media fix and go on Whatsapp and talk to my friends sometimes! It’s great to have a bit of a break from it all sometimes, but I have some bits of work to do, and I hate not being able to access it at all.

I’m trying not to think too much about what comes after all that once we’re home again and the stupid school runs and ironing uniform starts again. It’s going to be a struggle after the break, for both me and Ava, that’s for sure.

2016 has been such a whirlwind and quite tough in places, but there have also been some really great times, with amazing friends and family, and with blogging. So I’m looking forward to starting a new year, with a bit of a clean slate, and working really hard for a little while and really focusing on my blog. I would like to get into a bit of a better place physically and mentally and really have a good year (obvs).

The end of another year always makes me feel slightly melancholy and craving more balance in my life. It always seems to make me think more about life and the passing of time, and the people that we’ve lost from our lives who we wish were still a part of them.

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and got everything you always dreamed of! And have a very happy New Year. Thanks for reading this old blog in 2016 – I appreciate you! xxx

We are not at all ready for the break to be over, I think Lily may find it hardest of all because she will be the one away from the rest of us while she is at school. I have been thinking a lot about balance, and I think I always let some things slide in December for this very reason – just to breath a bit. I am 100% with you about some internet signal, when I was away before Xmas, I was still working everyday haha! Hope you managed to read a little while you’ve been away. xxx

The boys got really spoilt too and still have loads of toys they’ve not even opened yet! Sounds like you had a good one and I meant to wish Ava a happy Birthday too! xxx

I’ve really struggled this year with Christmas being over, it’s odd but it’s like I’ve had withdrawals. It felt like it was over too soon.
I hated the kids going back to school and me going back to work. We had a lovely Christmas and it was so nice to spend some time with the kids.
