Parenting, Cousins, and All the Clothes #LittleLoves

6th January 2017

Hello lovely people! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year, and you’re all ready to start afresh. Going back to the school runs this week has been reasonably hard, especially as A got really upset again on her first day back and since then too. She even made herself sick she got so worked up. It was awful. Breaks my little heart it does. We’re working on it though, and I’m making sure I spend loads of time just listening and letting her talk about it all when she wants to.

This parenting lark is damn hard at times!

Welcome to this week’s Little Loves!

Read

I took a book to Whitby and was determined to read lots whilst I was there, but apparently it’s kind of impossible to concentrate on a book for long with two kiddos running around. I’ve also had a little flick through a couple of the books I got for Christmas – Pretty Iconic by Sali Hughes, and Face by Pixiwoo. I can’t wait to have a bit of time to relax with them (2027 then?).

Watched

I haven’t watched loads of tv over Christmas or New Year actually. I’ve watched a bit of The Good Wife and the odd film but that’s about it. I’ve just been too busy with family stuff, or out.

Heard

My lovely nephew crying at 5am most mornings whilst we were away. Ava’s on a very different schedule to him at the moment – if she has a late night then she’ll generally sleep in the next morning so they’re not very easy to co-ordinate and do something with them together. They had so much fun together though; it’s the first time we’ve been away with them since N started walking and talking. They absolutely adore each other and they are so flipping cute together. A loved spending so much time with her cousin and was very sad to leave him.

Wore

Everything I could! It was freeeezing in Whitby, so I piled on the thick jumpers, puffer jacket, and scarves and hats and wellies occasionally too. And like mother like daughter…

Just before Christmas I actually went out for the first time in flipping months. It was our friends’ annual Christmas/birthday bash. So as usual here is a crappy bathroom selfie I took… I had to wear my glasses out because of an infection and I did not like it one bit.

And I bought Ava some roller skates (and some pom poms!) for her birthday at the start of January and they’ve lived on her feet ever since. She bloody loves them and picked it up so quickly.

Made

Endless cups of tea whilst I sit here working and not being able to get warm – bring on the summer!

And Lastly…

My gorgeous girl turned 5 (FIVE!) whilst we were away. It seems crazy, and yet she seems so grown up at times. So, so proud of her!

Love the picture of you two in your hats, it’s lovely. I hope that you manage to work through the school fears and it becomes easier for you both. That must be so tough. It must have been lovely to see your little one with her cousin, I was so close to my cousins as kids! Enjoy your weekend xx #LittleLoves

Thank you! School has got a bit better but it’s still a bit up and down – it has been so hard. I was really close to my cousins as kids too and one of them is still one of my best friends now! 🙂 xx

  2. The roller skates and pom-poms look so much fun. I hope the school run has improved x

Listening to your daughter lots sounds like the best idea. I hope this is a phase that passes quick. I’m with you on no time to read all the books I want. Definitely by 2027 though! Sounds like a lovely time in Whitby with your nephew.

You both look very cosy wrapped up in Whitby – I hope Ava had a lovely birthday! Good on her for being able to use roller skates – it’s something I’ve never managed!

  5. So lovely that Ava enjoyed spending so much time with her cousin! (is that right? I get confused with relations…) Loving the scarves and hats combos. You look stunning in that photo, hope you had a great night despite the infection. And Happy Belated Birthday Ava! Hope you have a great weekend x #LittleLoves

I am so pleased to be joining in with Little Loves this year after failing to keep up last year. Loving all the snuggly clothes although being cold is pants – I would much rather be too hot that too cold. I know what you mean about wearing glasses out too – I wear glasses pretty much all the time but on a night out or special day trip I’ll always wear contacts x

Oh poor Ava getting so worked up about school, I hope she’s settled back in ok now.
It looks like you’ve had a wonderful Christmas. I’ve never been to Whitby but so many of my friends have been for breaks there and said how lovely it is. xx
