The Holiday Essential You Might Have Missed – The Project SHOUT ‘Go With CO’ Campaign

10th July 2016

As it is finally summertime here in England (although the weather suggests otherwise), lots of us will be going off on holiday somewhere, either here or abroad. I’m sure most of us write huge lists of what to take when we’re going away, but there is probably something that doesn’t make it onto that list; something that could potentially save your families life.

Project SHOUT 'Go With CO'

Carbon Monoxide is a deadly gas, which causes over 200 people to be hospitalized every year, leading to around 50 deaths. And 40 people have been killed or injured by CO whilst staying in a tent, caravan, holiday cottage or boat in the last two years alone, despite awareness of holiday safety and CO poisoning rising in recent years. Carbon Monoxide is known as the ‘silent killer’ as you cannot see, taste, or smell it, so it is particularly dangerous.

The Project SHOUT ‘Go With CO’ Campaign

Project SHOUT are currently running a great national campaign called ‘Go with CO’, to encourage people to pop a CO alarm in their suitcase when they go away, whether abroad or in the UK. Fire Angel’s CO-9X 7 year portable CO alarm is perfect (and we have had one in our house for years), and would alert you to CO emissions from boilers, cookers, BBQ’s and other fuel-burning appliances whilst you are away.

I think it’s a great campaign, and I have never even thought about taking a Carbon Monoxide alarm away with me, but it completely makes sense. An alarm will hardly take up any room in your case, and could save you and your families lives. Then you just need to place it on a shelf and switch it on. The alarm measures even low levels of CO and is loud enough to alert you to the prescence of the deadly gas even when you are asleep. We will definitely take ours with us next time we go away.

I get a lot of peace of mind from our CO alarm, and it is something that everyone should have in their home, but I suppose it is not something that people will automatically think to have. It’s a low cost solution to something that could have tragic consequences, so I’m pleased to be a part of this campaign to raise awareness. You can support the cause too by shouting about the Project SHOUT campaign – you can pledge your support by sharing on your social media feeds and help save lives.
