Spread the Love – A New Linky Idea

For the last few months the idea of me starting a new linky has been floating around in my head, usually swiftly followed by thinking that I haven’t got time right now to set one up and read and comment on the blogs of the people who link up (if anyone does!). But Ava is at nursery for fifteen hours a week now and whilst I still have a million and one things to do, I do have more time to get things done and I would really like to start my own linky! I can always start one up and then if for some strange reason it becomes popular then I could perhaps get someone to help me.

My idea for a linky is a bit different though: I am thinking of creating a linky where you share someone elses blog post. So if you read a blog post that you think is great you can come here and add it and spread the luuuurve. We could all find some great new blogs to read, you would be doing your bit of niceness for the week and the lucky people whose post have been shared might get a bit more blog love without even doing anything? Sound good? Or stupid? Do you think anyone would join in? There are nice people reading my blog aren’t there?! 😉

There could be a couple of ways of doing this. I could say that you can either share someone elses post, or a specific post that you have written in which you would talk about some posts from other people that you have really enjoyed recently; or both.

Or we could do it so that you are allowed to share one post of your own (about anything) as long as you share one of someone elses as well. But then I think that has the potential to become quite chaotic and I wouldn’t know whether the person who wrote the post had shared it on the linky or someone else.

I know the big draw of participating in a linky is some more traffic and comments to your own blog, but karma’s a bitch right? So if we can share the blog love and help some other bloggers out and support this great community AND feel good about it then maybe it could work? What do you think?

For my post leading up to the linky I would share some posts that I have read that week that I have loved (which I am going to do even if I decide that the linky is not a good idea). After writing all of this down I think it would make the most sense if you could either share someone elses post or share a post that you have written talking about some posts you have loved. Do you agree?

The only thing I am worried about is whether it is ok to put someone elses link into the linky. Obviously their blog is out there to the public and most people want more people to read their posts, but it doesn’t necessarily work like that does it? I would be using InLinkz for the linky and have read their Terms of Service but can’t find anything that says you can’t put other people’s links in, only that you can’t use the code for your linky on someone elses blog.

Maybe the best idea would be to just create a post sharing other people’s posts that you love and then link up.

For the name I was thinking of either ‘Spread the Love’ or ‘The Love List’. I feel like I prefer Spread the Love, but The Love List would fit better with my ‘brand’ and the posts I write. I share ‘The Healthy List‘ and ‘The Happy List‘ regularly and so ‘The Love List’ would fit well with that. Which do you prefer or think would work better? (I have actually now checked and ‘Spread the Love’ has been a title for a linky before; it no longer seems to exist but maybe it would be better to go with ‘The Love List’.)

I really want your help with this please. I don’t want to do it if everyone thinks it will be a crap idea. If you like the idea which way do you think would be the best way to do it? I have done a bit of research and haven’t found another linky that is similar to this idea, but if you know of any please do let me know. I don’t want to step on anybody’s toes.
