The Summer Day Dress Edit

17th May 2016

I love a good day dress for summer. They are so easy to wear – you can just throw them on, with a pair of sandals or some converse, maybe a bit of jewellery if you can be bothered – and you are good to go. Especially as a mum doing the school or nursery run I really appreciate clothes that are easy to wear, and put together, whilst still being stylish and comortable – and dresses can be exactly that.

Now the weather has finally got a lot better I have been starting to (shave my legs) wear dresses again, as well as browsing online for some lovely new one’s. It’s very dangerous because there are so many I love around at the moment, and when they are really ‘easy to wear’ (which seems to be my mantra when it comes to clothes), I can’t resist adding them to my virtual basket and thinking about how this particular piece is likely to change my style life.

So I have put together a little collection of some pretty summer day dresses that are available online at the moment at some of my favourite shops, along with some sandals that would work great with them and some pretty jewellery for when you want to make more of an effort.

The Summer Day Dress Edit

A denim dress is such a great staple to have in your wardrobe for the summer – you can dress it up with wedges and big jewellery, or be comfortable and stylish on the school run with just some flat sandals or trainers. I love this one, and it’s such a great length for the daytime. Having a half sleeve means that it’s perfect for those slightly cooler days, and good if you like to cover up your upper arms a bit.

I love this pretty floral dress for summer days out with friends or wandering around a city. It’s really floaty and cool, and the slightly scooped neckline is really flattering (and my favourite type of neckline – which I usually struggle to get on a dress). I have actually ordered this dress from ASOS, but it was a bit big, so I’m hoping a smaller size will fit perfectly. It’s (sorry) another one that’s really easy to wear and I can throw on and feel really nice in.

I think maxi dresses are brilliant for summer, especially if you feel like covering up a bit, or don’t love your legs. A lovely floaty one like this would be great at any summer weddings, but would also be suitable for a more casual day out. I love the loose, trapeze style of it.

I bought some sandals that are almost identical to these silver one’s last year, and I absolutely lived in them. They are so comfy and look really good with loads of different oufits; dresses or jeans, and the slight wedge makes them a bit dressier but without having to wear bigger heel. I can’t wait to wear them again this summer.

Bardot style dresses are everywhere again this year, and I really love the bare shoulder look. I think it’s really nice to show some flesh, without having your cleavage out all the time (although some of us may like to do that a lot too). This blush coloured one from Topshop is so pretty, and being slightly more structured would be great for a wedding or daytime event. I keep imagining wearing it to the races with a big hat and a pair of wedges. Not that I ever go to the races or wear big hats, but it would be perfect for that.

If you’re pregnant then this dress is really pretty, and this would be really comfy and cool.

This patterned Topshop dress is a great style to just throw on in the sunshine and feel really nice in. They come in lots of different colours and patterns, and I have a couple from last year that I’m looking forward to wearing again. They’re also nice for those summery evenings out at the pub.

Do you like any of these dresses? Do you have a favourite type of dress for summer that you just live in?

This is a collaborative post, but all thoughts, opinions and style faux pas are my own.
