When Ava was little she didn’t get a lot of nappy rash, so we didn’t use a lot of nappy creams, and when we did I tried to use products that were as natural as possible. I hated the thought of putting creams with loads of chemicals and crap on her little delicate bum. As she got older she started to have a lot more nappy rash and be quite red and sore and I sometimes used a Weleda one which was really good and great for travel or days out if we needed it.
Then I discovered Coconut Oil and its numerous benefits and uses and decided that it would probably be great as a nappy cream. Coconut Oil is naturally antibacterial, antifungal, and antimicrobial so it’s perfect for use as a nappy rash cream. It’s raw and natural, which makes me feel a lot better about using it on my little girl.
Unlike a lot of nappy creams, it doesn’t sting when you put it on and it is seriously good at getting rid of nappy rash or other soreness quickly and effectively, as well as protecting the skin. It has helped my daughter so many times, when at times she has been screaming with pain.
It also works out a lot cheaper than actual nappy cream and you may already have some in the house (you should – it’s amazing for so many things and really good for you).
The only negative about it is that obviously it is a solid (unless you live somewhere really hot or in England for the two days a year it is hot), but once it is in your hands it becomes an oil and so it is not the cleanest thing to use, and it’s not really practical to use when you are out or travelling. But I just use a tube of something when out and about.
I’m so glad I discovered coconut oil and thought about using it for little bottoms as it makes me feel much better about putting something on my daughters skin, and it really is the best baby nappy cream in my opinion. It works brilliantly and quickly and soothes soreness immediately.
Do you use coconut oil for anything? Do you have a favourite nappy cream that works for your children? Do you think you’ll try coconut oil in future?
