Wedding Planning: The Dress {I’ve Found the One!}

Wedding Planning The DressSource

I have ordered my wedding dress! After my last post, where I was panicking about losing out on the dress I kind of loved but wasn’t perfect, I calmed down about it a bit and went to a couple more shops. One was horrendous, awkward, uncomfortable and we were only there for about forty minutes (thank goodness); and the other was brilliant. The staff were lovely and knowledgeable, there were lots of lovely dresses, the place was lovely and, best of all, when my friend/bridesmaid asked if we could go and buy a bottle of fizz to drink whilst I tried dresses on – they said yes!! No-one had ever asked them before apparently!

There was one dress that stood out to all of us and my bridesmaids all thought it was perfect and said I looked stunning (thanks friends!), but there was a part of the back that I wasn’t happy with and I quite wanted the skirt part of the dress to go out a bit more. I still kind of decided it was probably the one and left with a big smile on my face and couldn’t stop smiling all night.

I decided to go back to the shop with my sister to try the dress on again and when we went back there was a new dress in the shop in the style I wanted! I tried it on and loved it! The first one I had liked was quite plain which I did like, but this one was not plain at all. There were a couple of bits I wasn’t totally sure were exactly as I wanted, but we discussed it all with the lovely lady helping me, Alex and I felt like I was swaying more towards the new one, which was unexpected.

I then went back again with two of my bridesmaids so that they could see me in the ‘new’ dress. I wanted to see if they reacted to me in the same way as they did to the first dress and they bloody did! I think I had actually already come to the decision (as long as they liked it) that the ‘new’ dress was probably ‘the one’ for me and I was so relieved when they really liked it too and agreed with me that it was actually a lot better than the other one I had come close to buying. Alex from the shop also agreed that it was the one for me and so I was very happy.

I paid the deposit that evening and I am very excited and happy with my decision. I am quite an anxious person and until I see myself on my wedding day with my hair and makeup done and my dress on, I know I won’t relax. I worry that I won’t look as good as I want to look, and obviously I want to look beautiful on my wedding day. But there’s nothing I can do about that and so far I haven’t had any dress regret, which I think I would have had with the other one. I am so glad that the new dress came into the shop when it did – it was obviously meant to be!

P.S The dress in the picture is not mine (possibly unfortunately – it’s beautiful) and nothing at all like mine.
P.P.S If you are in Nottingham and wedding dress shopping, you should seriously go and have a look at Dress Place on George Street, the whole experience was absolutely brilliant and all of the staff are great.

    How exciting, I was very lucky to have 2 weddings (to the same man) so 2 white dresses. Cannot wait to see your wedding post if you blog it (please blog it) Thanks for linking up to #brilliantblogposts x

  5. It’s so exciting when you get that ‘this is the one’ wedding dress moment. If you have any doubts at all you know it’s not the one. I loved trying on different styles and things that I didn’t expect to like when I walked into dress shops. My wedding dress ended up having colour in it, which I hadn’t even considered, but I absolutely loved it. Good luck with the rest of your wedding planning! x #pocolo

    • It is very exciting! I liked trying on different styles too; I got my bridesmaids to pick out a few of their choice for me to try on but even though some were quite nice, they didn’t suit my shape as much as the style I chose! One in particular I felt like a princess in but it just wasn’t me 🙂 Thanks so much x

  6. SO exciting!! When I got married (far too young at 21) I just knew that the dress I chose was ‘the one’ and I am certain that this is the same for you 🙂 I can’t wait to see the photos! Thank you for linking to #PoCoLo x

    This is fantastic news! Your excitement about the dress coupled with everyone’s agreement about it is a fantastic sign that the dress was meant for you! I can’t wait to see more details about your big day. My wedding was four years ago, and I can honestly say it was one of the best days of my life 🙂 Glad you’re sharing your journey with us! (found you over at #sharethejoy).

  11. Such fab news, it’s a huge deal finding the dress isn’t it. I ended up being five months pregnant when I got married, and pretty big, so bought one from Isabella Oliver… even though I had had a gorge dress made just a few months previous. It’s still sitting unworn in my wardrobe. Maybe I’ll renew my vows one day so I get to wear it 😉 xx

    It’s strange how you just know when you’ve found the one isn’t it? And it sounds as if you have, wishing you all the luck for your wedding day #sharethejoy
