My 2018 Travel Bucket List

19th January 2018

I really love planning a new trip away – the excitement of thinking about visiting a new or much-loved place and thinking about what you’ll do and where you’ll stay is such a wonderful feeling.

We don’t have any trips planned for this year yet, and I don’t think it’s likely that we’ll go very far at all. But I still love to dream about where I’d like to go and the places I’ve always wanted to visit, and so I thought I would share my travel bucket list. Some places I have been to before and loved, and some I have wanted to go all of my life.

Paris

I’ve never been to Paris before, and I’ve always been desperate to go. I’ve actually only been to France once for a few days, and it poured with rain the whole time. But I’d really love to see the whole country more and particularly Paris. Cheese and wine are two of my most favourite things, and I’d love to wander around beautiful Paris, eating and drinking and exploring.

New York

I’ve been to New York once before when I travelled round the world at 21, and I loved it as much as I thought I would, and I really want to go back. I’ve always wanted to live in New York for a year if I could, although that’s pretty unlikely to happen now! It is one of those places that really lives up to the hype, and it’s amazing to just wander around, seeing the sights and eating great food. I love the atmosphere of the city, and visiting Brooklyn and seeing all the beautiful buildings.

Cornwall

Cornwall is somewhere I’ve visited for most of my life, and I absolutely love it. It’s such a beautiful part of the country, with beautiful beaches and amazing scenery, and we always seem to be really lucky with the weather when we go.  I’d really love to go again this year and find a dog friendly hotel so we can take our family’s dog. He came with us last time we went to Cornwall, and he had so much fun and Ava adores having him there too.

St Lucia

I would love to go to the Caribbean and St Lucia looks so beautiful. I would love to relax on the beach, drink cocktails, and take horseback rides along the beach too! I’ve always wanted to do that. I love that St Lucia has gorgeous beaches but also loads of lush greenery.

Croatia

I have wanted to go to Croatia since I was a teenager and my friends all went and I couldn’t go! I would have loved to have gone before it became so popular, but I still really want to go now. I would love to explore the ancient cities and see the lakes and lovely beaches – it all looks stunning.

Thailand

I spent a month in Thailand during my trip round the world, and it was brilliant. My favourite place was Koh Tao, where we stayed in a beach hut and then a lovely hotel and spent lazy days lying on the beach, enjoying the beautiful scenery, snorkelling and drinking fresh banana milkshakes and eating my favourite Massaman Curry and Pad Thai. Evenings were spent drinking in bars and lying on cushions on the beach with a cocktail or a beer. I also loved the street food and the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, which we used as a base.

I’d love to go back again and explore more of the country and revisit our favourite places. I can’t help browsing for holidays to Thailand regularly and dreaming of taking Ava there.

Vietnam

Vietnam is another place I went to on my trip, and alongside New York and New Zealand, it was my favourite place, and I’m desperate to go back. We got so comfortable with the noise and the chaos there, and I just loved it. There’s so much history and so many places to explore, I adored the food and the people are amazing.

What would you include on your travel bucket list? I’d love to know!
