Blogging Friends With Benefits

14th January 2016

A few months ago I joined a Whatsapp group for bloggers. Little did I know at the time the difference it would make to my life and to my blogging.

blogging friends

The group slowly dwindled down, until there were just seven of us. It’s now been that way for around three months, and the seven of us have become really good, genuine, supportive friends. It’s really bloody lovely.

It sounds pretty pathetic (and probably is), but for a while I had been feeling a bit jealous of other bloggers and their little groups of friends (or tribe as some call it!). Blogging can be a lonely place sometimes, and it’s hard not having someone who does it too, who you can trust, to ask their opinion of something or who can give you a bit of support.

Until a couple of months ago I had never met a single other blogger, and it kind of felt like I was the only one in the world who hadn’t. There were of course lots of bloggers who I chat to online and wanted to meet (and still do), but I had never been to a blogging event or conference before and so had never had the chance to meet any. It seemed like everyone else had someone or some people online to support them and chat to online. And of course that’s not true, not everyone has blogging friends, but I just sometimes felt like I was the only one who didn’t.

Then our Whatsapp group kind of naturally became the seven of us, and over the last couple of months we have got to know each other better and become really good friends. They’re all brilliant and I’m so happy I have them. Not only are we all there for each other for blog related stuff, but we’re also there for each other as actual real life people (!) – if any of us are feeling a bit rubbish or have something to celebrate – we are all there, and it’s so nice.

In terms of blogging, we have all seen the benefits (no, they’re not those kind of friends with benefits) of having each other and our little group. We all share each other posts, share blogging opportunities when we can and help each other out when we need it.

I have been to three events with people out of the group now (and had a great time), and hope to go to many more this year, and we are planning our own little get together soon. I am really grateful that we came together and became friends, because it really makes a difference to me having friends who are also in the blogging world.

I’m sorry if this sounds like (or is!) a big gushy ramble, but I’ve just been thinking about what a difference they’ve made to my blogging life, and so I wanted to write about it.

Do you have some blogging friends or a little group that support each other? Would you like to? Or do you think you’ve already got enough friends?!

I’m afraid I do have any real life blogging buddies (although of course there are people I know via their online personas). In fact, I got a bit of a shock when I went to Blogfest and realised that other people were there with people they knew. I thought, how can this be!

    Do not, even! Whoops!

Ohhh this is so nice id LOVE to have a group of friends around me to talk to about blogging. I bet it’s so nice having the encouragement! How did you all meet each other? Xx

    • Thank you! It is lovely, and I’m so grateful. Most of us literally met just from being added to a blogger whatsapp group by another blogger! It was one of those things that just kind of happened, and then we ended up with a lovely little group! 🙂 xx

This title made me giggle! I have met some lovely bloggers online but not enough in person for my liking. There’s quite a few that live near me but I’m too shy to reach out 🙂

  5. The greatest gift I’ve had from blogging is friends. I came into it through toy reviewing, in a group of 14 of us. We all either had a blog or created one to host the reviews, and 3 1/2 years later all still have our blogs and write regularly, some more than others. We’ve remained good friends and have now met each other a few times at conferences and even together at someone’s house – but we’ve never yet all been in the same location at the same time though!

Nope, not me! I was going to go to a blogging conference this year, but chickened out on account of worrying that I’d turn up and be Billy no mates all day. Which is silly really, as I’m sure lots of other people would feel that way and would be only to pleased to have some company on the day. Glad to hear you’ve made some blogging buddies! xxx

  7. A lovely post!! These people sound pretty damn awesome 😉 xx

  8. It really can make such a difference can’t it. I love my little lot a heap. Glad you’ve found yours too.

  9. So happy you found your “tribe”. I have met some lovely bloggers the last year but I would love to meet someone that would encourage me and be my blogging buddy. Happy 2016!

  10. I don’t have any blogging friends really and it makes me sad 🙁 There are a few bloggers that comment back regularly or interact on social media but I wouldn’t say I have any real ‘friends’!

I’m a mix. I floated around in the ether for ages, building up some relationships online before finally going to a couple of blogging conferences last year and discovering that a lot more people knew me than I had realised.

Online relationships are a funny thing. I set up one blog with six other people across three countries having never actually met any of them face-to-face – even now, only one of the seven of us has actually met all the others (and it isn’t me!) And yet they’re as close friends as many others I have known in person for years.
