Current Beauty Favourites

7th July 2017

As it gets closer to summer I tend to switch my beauty products up a bit and start bothering more with fake tanning and that kind of thing. So I thought I would share some of the things that I’ve been loving using recently.

The weather here has turned horrible again, but I know that it is very likely to suddenly turn beautiful again quickly and I’ll want to get my legs out and wear less makeup, so I need to be ready!

Here are some of my current beauty favourites.

St Tropez Gradual Tan Tinted Body Lotion

I have tried a lot of different fake tans over the years, and I’m a fan of quite a few different ones. Every year the big brands bring out new versions of them; there are lots of oils around now which I tend to really like and find easy to use.

Generally though I tend to use everyday tanners for regular use and I can just stick it on like a body cream and not worry too much. There are quite a few I’m happy to use, but right now I’m really loving the St Tropez Gradual Tan Tinted Body Lotion. I got a small bottle free with a magazine before I went on holiday and really liked it so bought a full-size bottle.

Because it’s tinted it gives a really nice colour straight away, so I like using it on my face if I’m looking a bit pasty and tired, or if I’m not planning on wearing makeup, and I find the overall tan to be really natural. It is really thick for some reason, so you have to spread it quite quickly, but I just find that it works really well and gives me a really nice colour.

It’s not the cheapest gradual tanner, but I do find that despite it being thick it does last me quite a long time and the colour builds up more quickly than with other gradual tans.

John Frieda Frizz Ease

My hair has changed in the last year or so, and become a bit more frizzy and drier, whilst also managing to go greasy quickly in places, so I’ve been changing up my hair care quite a bit to find something that works for my hair now.

I’ve used the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette range for absolutely years, but my hair has been lighter for a couple of years now and so it doesn’t work as well on my hair now.

After I came back off holiday my hair had lots of natural highlights from the sun and was a little drier, so I started using the John Frieda Frizz Ease range that I bought whilst it was on offer. I had the Miraculous Recovery Shampoo and Conditioner, and they seemed to work really well for my hair and I stopped getting the greasy bits I’d be getting and my hair just seemed in a slightly nicer condition. They are said to instantly restore and have long-lasting damage defence, which seemed like exactly what I needed.

Then I was sent the John Frieda Frizz Ease Forever Smooth Shampoo* and Conditioner, which has a brand new look, as well as the Extra Strength 6 Effects Serum, and I’m really liking them.

The shampoo and conditioner have a ground-breaking Frizz Immunity Complex, which deeply penetrates hair fibres to help combat the porosity of frizzy hair, and also builds an internal barrier to build frizz immunity with every use.

My hair felt lovely from the very first wash and continues to feel soft and lovely every time. It seems so much smoother and easier to style. It contains a blend of pure coconut oil and conditioning agents, to strengthen hair’s immunity to fight the onset of frizz from the inside out, improving hair’s texture and manageability. I think especially as I have coloured my hair quite a bit recently, they are doing a great job of making it smoother and improving my hair’s condition.

The first time I used the Extra Strength 6 Effects Serum, I stupidly used two pumps instead of the recommended one as it didn’t seem like a lot, but I really didn’t need it, and my hair seemed a bit greasy, but when I’ve used it properly I have really loved it. My hair is even silkier when I use the serum, and lovely and shiny. It contains silk proteins and algae extract, to condition dehydrated hair for more manageable and lustrous results. I really like it and will keep using it once a week or so.

Alpha H Liquid Laser Super Anti-Ageing Balm

I am on my second pot of Alpha H’s Liquid Laser Balm now, and I absolutely adore it. It’s not cheap (at all) but my first pot lasted me absolutely ages (possibly a year or more?) as you really only need a tiny bit with it being a balm. It spreads easily and makes my face feel wonderful. The next morning it is smooth and nourished and feels so lovely. It is my favourite night time product to use.

Cult Beauty Says:

Liquid Laser delivers unparalleled anti-ageing results without the risks (or expense) of a visit to Harley Street. A unique cosmeceutical night treatment, Liquid Laser Super Anti-Ageing Balm melts into skin upon application – flooding cells with precious moisture to instantly alleviate the tightness and discomfort that goes hand-in-hand with dehydration. A cocktail of essential oils – including lavender, patchouli and mandarin – then strengthens skin and dispels stresses to ease you towards a deep and rehabilitative sleep. Starring Juveleven – a revolutionary new ingredient which mimics the action of Hydra Jellyfish (nicknamed the “immortal jellyfish” for their unique ability to regenerate themselves in their entirety… indefinitely!) – this phenomenal, skin-conditioning balm synthesises the four key proteins responsible for this incredible, regenerative cycle, so you wake up to plump, dewy, younger-looking skin.

That sounds pretty amazing doesn’t it! I really do think this gives me much plumper skin the next day, and it’s such a lovely luxurious product to use. I hadn’t noticed it helping me to drop off to sleep a bit more easily but I’ll pay more attention next time I use it. Plus, we all want to be like an immortal jellyfish don’t we?

Deceim Hylamide C25 Vitamin C Booster

I really love Deciem products – the products have a really scientific background and are effective and great value for the quality. I use a couple of the Hylamide serums on a daily basis, and one of those is the C25 Booster.

The serum targets dullness, uneven tone, textural irregularities and fine lines – all of which I suffer with at times. It contains an Ethyl-Ascorbate Complex which is a very stable complex from the Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C) family, which encourages an even, smooth and glowing skin appearance. A patented, highly efficient form of solubilized active resorcinol offers an evenly bright-looking skin tone while acting as a powerful antioxidant.

I really enjoy using this, and feel like it does help my skin to be smoother and brighter. I’ve used it for around a year now, but I did feel like it made a difference to my skin rather quickly. I like to have a Vitamin C product as part of my skincare routine, and this one is really high quality and effective.

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation

I starting using the Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Foundation late last year when I was looking for a more glowy finish and I had fallen out of love with my usual one. I absolutely love it, it goes on beautifully and has such a glowy finish which I love. I find it has a decent coverage but isn’t heavy at all, and it layers so, so well. I can just use a tiny bit for a bit more of an even skin tone, or I can layer it up to give a fuller coverage if I feel like I need it. It’s the first foundation I’ve ever found that I can use to add more foundation to my entire face even after wearing a face of makeup all day and just need to quickly do my face again. It has a super silky emulsion that feels so lovely on the skin, and it lasts all day and keeps my skin looking great.

The Intensive Skin Serum Foundation is foundation and skincare in one, and contains Lychee, Bamboo Grass and Cordyceps Mushroom extracts, to give skin the energy it needs to look fresher and younger.

On the downside, it is bloody expensive and what makes that even worse is that the packaging is awful. Beautiful, but awful. It comes in a glass bottle with pipette but unfortunately the foundation is I presume too thick to be sucked up easily by the pipette and so it is a pain in the arse to get enough out and often makes a big mess when you do. Also, I’ve taken it away with me twice and it has leaked both times!

I have heard rumours that they will be changing the packaging as they have had a lot of complaints, but until they do I only really save it for best now, and I decant some into a pot if I’m going away. Sadly, even though I could do with a darker colour right now, I don’t think I’ll be buying it again until the packaging is changed as it’s too much faff with too much waste. I’m hoping they’ll change it really soon because if you look at the reviews they all say the same thing. But I love the actual foundation and what it does for my face.

Lumity Anti-Ageing Supplement

I was sent a months supply of this health and beauty supplement to try; Lumity is an all natural, clean supplement. Although it’s really hard to tell with this sort of thing, I really think it made a difference to my skin very quickly. I felt like my skin looked really healthy and more smooth than normal and just kind of ‘behaved’ better. I don’t get a lot of spots anymore after removing cows milk from my diet, but I do still get a few hormonal ones – but during the time I was taking Lumity I didn’t get any at all, which is brilliant and unusual.

It’s hard to know if the supplement made a difference to my energy levels or tiredness, because they fluctuate anyway, but there’s a lot of science behind this product and I do believe that if I was taking it for longer (I would if I could), then I would likely notice a difference. There’s the problem though – they are extremely expensive. They really are an investment for your health, and unfortunately it’s one that I can’t afford to make right now, but I do wish I could.

Lumity is a smart beauty formula full of radiance-boosting nutrients. Lumity contains a scientifically targeted cocktail of amino acids, omega fatty acids, vitamins and minerals to protect and rejuvenate as you age — Vitamin A, Iodine and Zinc help maintain healthy skin,  and Selenium contributes to maintaining hair and nails. Vitamin D, Magnesium and Zinc have a role in the process of cell division. Lumity also contains the prized Persian beauty secret, Turmeric root, plus Vitamin C, a major beauty ally because of its role in contributing to healthy collagen formation. Lumity is high in Omega 3s and amino acids to help keep skin elastic, radiant and supple.

You take 3 tablets in the morning, and 3 different ones at night -so the capsules work in tandem with the body’s natural biorhythmic cycles. They’re really easy to take and I never got an aftertaste. I loved knowing I was getting such a great range of potential benefits in such a high quality supplement – they’re free from all the crap you often get in other supplements. The Times newspaper named Lumity as one of the top three healthy ageing supplements in the world.

What have you been loving recently? Any great recommendations you think I would love?
