Eight Photos of Happiness

12th November 2015

I love how a particular photo can take you right back to a moment in time, perfectly captured to bring back the memories and feelings from the day. I love photos and photography, and I have so many that are really important to me, like my Grandma and Grandad’s wedding photo album and one from their honeymoon to London! It’s so cool to look at them when they were young and see how happy they looked. I also have hundreds and hundreds more that I still need to get printed and put into albums so we can all look through them together, and revisit them in the future.

A good snapshot keeps a moment from running away

I was recently tagged by Laura from Life With Baby Kicks to share my eight photos of happiness. So here they are…

One

Ava on a beach in Porto edit

This was in Porto, Portugal during our month long trip through Spain and Portugal. We needed a beach day in between all of the city strolling. It was a lovely long stretch of beach, but it was so chilly despite being a red hot day and the shoreline was very rocky and not good at all to take Ava into. But, we managed to find a less windy spot behind some sand dunes and Ava spent a good hour or so running around and playing in the sand happy as larry (who the eff is Larry?). She was running around, making up scenarios with dogs and other imaginary friends, and having so much fun. She absolutely adores the beach and she just seems so carefree and joyous there. It made me happy to just sit and watch my baby girl so free and happy (especially after all the whinging she had been doing all holiday!), and just be so grateful for this gorgeous girl who is actually mine. Sunshine, sand and family is a pretty perfect combination I think.

Two

With bridesmaids and flower girl

I absolutely adore this photo from my wedding day with all of my special girls; my sister who was my Maid of Honour, my bridesmaids, and my beautiful little flower girl. I think it’s a lovely photo of all of us, but I love that it’s quite natural and fun too. Not too perfect, which is perfect to me. These girls are all so special to me and I love all of them so much. I definitely have to get this printed and put in a frame; I love it and it makes me very happy. Obviously the moment was a special one too – at my wedding with my beautiful friends, cuddling my daughter and having fun.

Three

Newborn Ava

Oh my, this makes me quite emotional looking at it. A special moment with my brand new daughter, looking at her and thinking ‘wow, she is finally here with me, and now I just get to stare at her, this is incredible’. It took four years of trying, two rounds of IVF, a miscarriage, a tough pregnancy and a hell of a lot of worrying, and she was finally here with me safe and sound. The hard work was over (kind of!), she was safe, well and perfect, and I was still alive. I couldn’t move my legs and I had no clue how to change her nappy, but it didn’t matter; she was here. It was an amazing moment between just the two of us. I did worry for far too long after I took this though, that I might have damaged her precious little eyes with the flash.

Four

Mummy and Daughter

This photo was taken in Stratford-Upon-Avon. We spent a couple of nights there for my 30th birthday last year, and it was a perfect few days. We had really gorgeous weather and just spent time relaxing, wandering around and playing together. We ate loads of lovely food and wine, got tons of fresh summer air, and we were all just really relaxed and happy. It was just so much fun, simple and so perfect and I felt really happy there.

Five

photobooth fun

I bloody love this photo! My wonderful bridesmaids grabbed Ava and squeezed in the photo booth at our wedding together so that they could get one of them all together for me! I had no idea until I saw the photo much later that it had even happened (I obviously wasn’t paying attention to where my daughter was 😉 and it made me really happy!

Six

Cheese review

Yes, cheese makes me very, very happy. If there was some Prosciutto on there and a glass of red wine by the side then this photo would probably be my most favourite of them all….

Seven

First dance at wedding with daughter

We danced the first dance at our wedding on our own for a little bit, before getting Ava to join us. It was really lovely being able to have our daughter at our wedding with us (although I barely saw her all day!), it made me very happy that she got to share it with us. And of course, she had an amazing time running around with the other kids and being with her family all day. I love this photo, and that you can see lots of our family and friends smiling in the background.

Eight

New Zealand

This photo was taken in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds in New Zealand years and years ago. We went travelling around the world for five months when we were 23. We loved New Zealand so much – and Marlborough Sounds was a highlight. We stayed at this kind of homestay place on the owners land, there was a goat and chickens, and the lovely lady brought us eggs from the chickens, and baked us a cake and bread! It was such a beautiful place, surrounded by mountains and we spent a lovely relaxed few days going for walks and lazing around. The wine I was drinking in the picture was, in fact, a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc – my favourite white wine and from that very region! I really want to go back there one day.
