Explore the World at Your Own Pace, With a Walking Holiday

29th May 2018

When I go on holiday, I like it to be nice and relaxing but I also love to explore new places and sights. I love to experience a new place on foot, discovering all it has to offer at my own pace, stopping as and when I like and getting lots of fresh air.

The UK has so many wonderful places to explore, and a walking holiday can be the perfect way to see and enjoy them. Today I am sharing why a walking holiday is so great and which in particular from Inntravel appeal the most to me.

Inntravel – The Slow Holiday People

Inntravel was established in 1984 (as was I..) and they specialise in ‘slow’ holidays, offering self-guided activity holidays throughout Europe and beyond. Whether that’s walking or cycling, each trip is carefully tailored to each individual or group’s requirements, giving you the best overall experience: the best scenery, places to stay, food, and trails so that you can have the best holiday possible. There is something for everyone.

One of the things I love most is that as you follow your routes from one lovely hotel to the next, your luggage is transported ahead, leaving you free to explore the area at your own pace.

I love the idea of a walking holiday – getting some exercise without thinking about it, and exploring a new place, as well as getting to stay in various unique and friendly hotels, sounds like such a great thing to do and I think it would be really nice to do as a family. A ‘slow’ holiday would be the perfect break from the rush of daily life.

The Walking Holidays I’d Love to Go On

A Yorkshire Gastronomic Celebration

I am a big foodie, and so the Yorkshire Gastronomic Trail really appeals to me. I love Yorkshire and go quite often (I went to University in York, and we have a family home in Whitby), but this would be something so different to do, and give me the opportunity to visit places I haven’t been to before, whilst eating lots of great food! The holiday ends in Malton, which is known as the Yorkshire Food Capital, and Yorkshire is full of beautiful scenery, making it the perfect combination for a great holiday.

Why the Yorkshire Gastronomic Trail is that little bit special:

I love the thought of combining a walking holiday with some great food and exploring more of one of my favourite places in the UK.

Landscapes of The Peak District

One that is not too far from me, but that I haven’t ever explored properly, is the walking holiday staying in three Peak District towns. It is a beautiful area, and on this holiday you get 6 days of wandering along a diverse terrain – paths and bridleways across rolling farmland, gritstone edges, and heather-clad moors and riverbanks.

On this trip you get to stay in two country inns, as well as a farm stay (which I would love!), whilst enjoying home-cooked breakfasts and picnics for lunch. Find out more here: Landscapes of The Peak District.

A Cotswolds Treat

The Cotswolds is somewhere I have always wanted to go, and have never made it, and a walking holiday seems like it would be the perfect way to discover this gorgeous place.

This Cotswold trail sounds like the perfect leisurely holiday, with great food such as that at the famous Pudding Club, incredible rural scenery and pretty villages with thatched cottages, and welcoming hotels to rest those legs in. It all sounds so lovely. Read about it here: A Cotswolds Treat.

A walking holiday is something that definitely appeals to me, particularly as a way of seeing more of the UK on a lovely short break. It is, by nature, a green way of holidaying and allows you to burn off some extra calories from all the delicious food you’re eating. Inntravel’s walking holidays allow you to go at your own pace with no two days being the same, giving you the chance to discover things off the beaten path. Two-thirds of their bookings are made by those who have travelled with them before, or by friends to whom they have been recommended, showing how much people enjoy them. I think I’d love it too.

Have you ever been on a walking holiday or would you like to go on one? Where would you go if so?
