One Wish For My Daughter, with Pampers and UNICEF

13th October 2015

Maternal and newborn tetanus is a deadly disease that affects families in some of the poorest areas of the world, and occurs when newborns are infected as a direct result of unhygienic birthing practices. Once it has been contracted there is no real cure and it still claims the lives of 49,000 newborns every year. That’s one baby losing their life every 11 minutes. Horrendous isn’t it?

I have written about Pampers work with UNICEF before , and their “1 pack = 1 vaccine” campaign. The campaign began in 2006, and since then they have helped to eliminate maternal and newborn tetanus in 17 countries. This means that an estimated 500,000 newborn babies have been saved and a vaccine has reached a mother and her baby every second. However, there are still 21 countries where the disease remains a threat.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the Pampers and UNICEF partnership and their 1 pack = 1 vaccine campaign. Their one wish as you can imagine is to eliminate maternal and newborn tetanus everywhere.

Pampers and UNICEF have asked me to share what my one wish for my daughter would be. We are very lucky in this country that we can usually expect our little one’s to have a healthy start in life, and of course I want my daughter to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible. But if I could have one wish for her it would be for her to happy. I hope she gets to live a really happy and full life, with as little pain as possible. I know that sometimes in life we go through things that can make us less than completely happy and obviously that’s ok, and we need those times even though they are hard, so that we realise what we have the rest of the time. But I hope my beautiful, amazing daughter can live a happy life, full of people that love her and care about her.

Someone could be really healthy but not necessarily happy, but as long as you have happiness then life can be good. If you are surrounded by people who love you then hopefully you will have happiness. I often think of those pictures and video’s we see of children in Africa – they have so very very little; they don’t have their health or any money and very little food or water – but they look happy, with big grins on their faces. They play with their friends and run around and enjoy life. Being happy changes things.

I know that without having to wish for it my children can expect good health for the most part in this country. They will have that good start in life that is so important and they can expect that to continue as they grow older. For the babies and mothers in these 17 countries where Maternal and Newborn Tetanus still exists, this isn’t the case. The harsh reality is that these mothers may not even get the chance to wish for a life of happiness for their babies. I can’t even try to imagine what that is like.

For every view that this blog post receives Pampers will donate the cost of three vaccines to UNICEF to protect against Maternal and Newborn Tetanus.

That means that just by reading this you are helping. If you would like to do some more then below there is a film that Pampers have created, called ‘Wish’. Please watch it and share the video. For every share of the video another vaccine will be donated.

Please think about sharing this post in as many places as you can. Let’s help save some lives and help eradicate this terrible disease. You can also help to donate even more vaccines by buying the specially marked packs of Pampers nappies for your little one.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the Pampers/UNICEF campaign. Their one wish is to eliminate maternal and newborn tetanus everywhere – 21 countries are still threatened by this deadly disease – let’s do something about that together.

I would really love and appreciate it if you could help me in getting as many vaccines as possible donated by Pampers (and you already have if you are reading this), by sharing this post on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and anywhere else you can, and watching and sharing the video above. They are such easy things to do but really worthwhile.

Thank you.

What a great company and cause to get involved in and support. I love when bloggers help spread the word and share with the world what’s going on out there. We all should do more to help those in need as we would want someone to help us if the shoes were on the other foot. Thank you so much for linking up to Share With Me. I hope to see you again this week for another great round of #sharewithme
