The School Days – A Lovely Half Term Week

24th February 2017

Last week was half term here, and we were both in desperate need of it. Usually during the holidays most people around us have to work so it is just me and Ava. Whilst that is nice sometimes, we can both get a bit sick of each other – me being a typical nagging mummy, and her having lots of mardies and constantly asking for things!

This time though, half term coincided with our relatives coming over from New Zealand, which has meant that we had a brilliant and very busy half term week.

It started with us heading to Rutland for a few days to the gorgeous lodges at Rutland Caravan and Camping (post finally coming really soon about those!) – what started off as only staying one night turned into Ava and I staying for three, which was wonderful and felt very spontaneous and fun. I truly relax when I’m there, and as I’d for once been pretty organised and written blog posts in advance I didn’t feel guilty about doing very little blog work. It was wonderful spending time with my step-brother and my niece and watching her and Ava getting to know each other and having tons of fun together.

We went swimming and in the hot-tub numerous times, and visited the local villages, and spent an afternoon at Rutland Water, where we warmed up with hot chocolates and sausage sandwiches after a traipse around outside. It was all just perfect and unexpected.

Trust my daughter to stuff her face rather than smile 🙂

Ava and I then spent a day at Twinlakes theme park with the NZ’ers which was a pretty good day out not too far away from where we live. It doesn’t compare to somewhere like Alton Towers, but it’s great for young kids, especially as it is open earlier in the season than Alton Towers, and it would be even better in the summer months with the splash area. There are lots of indoor bits though, and fairground-type rides that the girls loved.

We also all spent a lovely day at Wollaton Park, not far from where we live, wrapped up warm against the freezing cold weather. The crazy cats enjoyed ice creams, and us slightly more mature folk enjoyed doughnuts and coffees. The kids (and big kids) played on the park for ages and then we strolled up to the top of the hill to the Industrial museum and wandered around the hall.

I’ve spent a few evenings drinking far too much wine with my step-sister and brother, and discussing world politics and the like, and Ava has had a couple of slightly unsuccessful sleepovers with her cousin which she loved despite them both being awake half the night and both getting upset at times.

School Days - A Lovely Half Term Week

It’s just been the perfect school holiday, for Ava to spend loads of time with another child who is so lovely to her and treats her equally, after all of the crap she has been going through at school. It really seemed to build up her confidence again and has just made me so happy. I’m dreading them both leaving next week and so is Ava – she’s had a few cries about it already, the poor love.

But now it’s back to school and the tears are back again already. I’m just really grateful that we’ve had such a lovely half term together, and she got to spend time with her cousin.

It looks like you had a great week. I wish it was still half term. Also wish I was drinking wine into the night, but you can’t have everything 😂 You’ll have to go to see them next! 😉 Xxx
