Splendour Festival 2018 | Wollaton Park, Nottingham

9th May 2018

I have lived in Nottingham for almost all of my life but I have never actually been to Splendour Festival, and this year it is the special 10th anniversary of the brilliant family festival and we’re very excited to be going!

The one-day summer music festival takes place at Wollaton Park on Saturday 21st July, with Paloma Faith headlining the epic line-up. Also performing on the Main Stage will be The Charlatans, who made their debut at the first Splendour 10 years ago!

The Stranglers will be headlining the Confetti Stage, plus there’ll be loads more brilliant artists, including Marc Almond (one half of the electro duo Soft Cell), the internationally acclaimed Björn Again performing the very best of ABBA, Embrace, and Nottingham’s Ady Suleiman, who has gained fans in Chance the Rapper and Labrinth.

I’m really excited to see Sophie Ellis-Bextor (can anyone else not hear her name without singing “IT’S MURDER ON THE DAAANCEFLOOR” and stamping your foot??) and Toploader – I’m still a massive fan of ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’; it brings back so many memories of being a teenager and going clubbing with friends.

The festival is perfect for families, with a kids’ area and entertainers out and about in the crowd as well as Gem 106’s extremely popular Weekend Anthems silent disco, back for the third year running. I went to my first silent disco at The Big Feastival last year and it was so much fun and Ava loved it too. We had loads of fun dancing about and singing at the top of our lungs. Ava is really into music at the moment, and knows all the words to current songs, so I think she’ll really enjoy it.

There’s also the Comedy Stage, with performances from Brian & Krysstal; Andrew Bird; The Raymond & Mr Timpkins Revue; Patrick Monahan; Alan Hudson; and Dave Twentyman (compere). There’s so much to enjoy at Splendour and it is going to be a great family day out.

Tickets for Splendour cost £53.90 online, and under 11’s go free, which is brilliant. Nottingham city residents can also get a good discount, and VIP tickets are also available. Last year the music event completely sold out, so don’t leave it long if you want to go. Tickets can be purchased from splendourfestival.com or if you are in Nottingham you can pick them up from the Nottingham Tourism Centre or Clifton, Ken Martin, Southglade and Harvey Hadden Leisure Centres.

We love Wollaton Park and go quite often; it’s such a beautiful place and seems like the perfect place in Nottinghamshire for a festival. Hopefully we will get a lovely, sunny summers day, and can enjoy the festival in the amazing surroundings.

We can’t wait to attend our very first Splendour Festival in July; it sounds brilliant, and we’re looking forward to dancing about in the sunshine (fingers crossed) at Wollaton Park. If you want to be there then make sure you book your tickets before they sell out and come and have fun in the sun with us! Go here to get yours.

If you’re going to Splendour festival let me know in the comments!
