Take a Ferry ‘Cross the Mersey: The Ultimate Family Day Out

9th August 2017

It’s the summer holidays, and if you are looking for something fun to do with your family, and live near or are visiting Liverpool, then the Mersey Ferries River Explorer Cruise is the ultimate family day out when combined with a visit to Spaceport!

You can get a special Family River Explorer & Spaceport Ticket with Mersey Ferries so that you can visit three of Liverpool’s greatest attractions all in one day – a trip on the river cruise, entry to the Spaceport as well as the U-Boat story.

There is loads to see and do on this fun, family day out, and if you book online you can get the special £35 Family River Explorer & Spaceport ticket, available for 2 adults and up to 3 children (ages 5-15). I think that is really good value for a fun family day out!

50 Minute River Explorer Cruise

You can take a trip to see Liverpool’s most iconic sights aboard the world-famous Mersey Ferry. The 50 minute River Explorer Cruise takes in the best views along Liverpool’s famous skyline, and is guided by expert commentary throughout. The kids will have loads of fun on the colourful boat, and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for you to enjoy a picnic, or there is a café on board serving hot drinks and snacks.

Spaceport Attraction – Seacombe

During your River Explorer Cruise, with your combined ticket, you can disembark at Seacombe and visit the brilliant Spaceport, where you will take an inspirational journey through space, as you walk through several themed and interactive galleries.

There is currently a Sci-Fi exhibition on – Sci-Fi Icons – where you can see a private collection of Star Wars memorabilia from one of the UK’s biggest collectors! You can see an array of fascinating scenes and iconic characters from the films including, Landspeeder Desert Scene, Ewok Village, Jedi Knights, The Death Star, Jabba’s Court, The Emperor’s throne room, Stormtrooper, Darth Maul and much more! There is also a display of renowned Star Wars toys dating back from 1977 to 1996!

U-boat Attraction – Woodside

After you have visited Spaceport, you can jump back on to the River Explorer Cruise to get to the U-boat Story at Woodside. Here you can find out all about life on-board a U-534 through the exhibition’s interactive and audio-visual exhibits, and I bet the kids would love exploring the boat.

The River Explorer Cruise is so convenient as you can hop on and off and it sounds like a great day out for families, particularly over the summer holidays when you might be looking for something different to do.

If you fancy a family day out and buy the family ticket, the kids get lots of fun bits to get them involved in exploring the attractions. Every child will get ‘I am a river explorer’ flags, with stickers to put on each of the flags – one for Spaceport, one for the ferry and one for U-Boat story; and an ‘I am a river explorer’ sticker. As well as origami rockets which you can construct as a family and take on your day out with you, exploring the attractions!

I think Ava would love the brightly coloured Dazzle Ferry, which looks so cool, and I think she would really enjoy going to Spaceport (as would I!). The River Explorer and Spaceport ticket really does get you the ultimate family day out in Liverpool, and it’s the perfect time to go over the summer holidays. You can get your tickets here.

Have you ever been to any of these attractions or on a ferry ‘cross the Mersey? Or are you planning a trip to Liverpool soon? Is the song in your head now?! Let me know!
