The Weekend – My Nottingham Hen Do

3rd June 2015

This last weekend it was my Nottingham hen do. A big group of us went into town and we had a great night. We started off with a cocktail class at Rum House and then had dinner at greek restaurant Yamas. I was dressed up in a veil, a sash, a flashing pink garter and a badge. And later on there were flashing willy earrings. We kept it classy.

I had done a couple of cocktail making classes at Revolution before for other people’s hen do’s which were really good fun and a great icebreaker when there is a big group of you and not everyone knows each other. Everyone has a few cocktails and some fun making cocktails themselves and it’s just a good way to start the evening and get everyone relaxed (and a bit tipsy!).

The cocktail class at Rum House was really good value for money. It was £15 per person and we got A LOT of alcohol. I was possibly slightly drunk by the end of it. The ‘class’ was fun and we all got to make a couple of cocktails each. The two guys who took it were lovely and good fun (and one of them told me he could tell I’d made cocktails before – oh yes – bar lady and cocktail maker extraordinaire here ;). I do think the Revolution cocktail class is better as it is more organised and you all sit on stools by the bar (rather than standing at Rum House) and there are a few fun games involved which I liked. But I was still really happy with the Rum house class, especially for the cost.

After that we had dinner and then went to a bar and played Mr and Mrs and Pass the Parcel and drank more cocktails and wine. There may or may not have been willy straws involved. It was a really good night; it was lovely having so many of my favourite ladies out especially for me and also I loved having my mum, mother-in-law and aunties out with me, even if my mum did get a little bit hammered (hi mum!).

I was made to hug two barmen, sing and dance I’m a little teapot, order a drink in an Australian accent (apparently I used ‘mate’ too much to be convincing) and have my photo taken with a bouncer with a giant blow-up willy. Like I said, classy.

I still have my Brighton hen do to go in a few weeks so I am looking forward to that and seeing Brighton for the first time. There are just a few of us which will be nice, and I’m looking forward to a (hopefully) relaxing (at least some of the time) weekend, of not having to be a mummy and spending time with my friends in (sunny?) Brighton.

Have you ever done a cocktail class? Have you been to Brighton before? I’ve never been and I’m excited! Let me know if you can recommend anywhere great to go!

P.S We went to All Bar One on my hen do, and there they have made the mistake of having big metal letters saying ‘All Bar One’ on shelves behind the table we sat at. Well, my hen do girls are clearly quite good at conundrums as they rearranged the letters to spell something a bit ruder than All Bar One. I do have photo evidence but I think I probably shouldn’t put it on here. Let’s just say it starts with ‘b’, ends in ‘r’ and has five letters and it is something girls don’t get. And yes, some of the older members of our group were involved in this disgraceful behaviour.

Me, hammered? Well, just a little bit! And I recovered well; it was the cocktails, they were just too nice. If they will put a huge bowl of yummy mango flavoured drink in front of me, with a huge straw poking right at my mouth, what did they expect?. No one told me it had alcohol in it!

Anyway, the food (and lots of water) got me through it. Lovely food (and lots of it) at Yammas!

Great night out; took me awhile to get over it!

  3. It looks like is what a lot of fun. I’m from Nottingham too, and I’m ashamed to say there’s a few places I haven’t heard of here. I really must get out more #pocolo

  4. Haha sounds like fun! And I am still wondering what that word is. I am a bit slow today as I have little sleep so I need more clue =P

  5. Wow! It looks like you had a great time. I bet you had one to remember. Good idea to go cocktail making – lots of reasons for alcohol! Thank you for linking to PoCoLo x

Looks and sounds like a fun hen do. I wish I would have had one but I didn’t know anyone in the UK when I got married and I got married abroad so it kind seemed silly to try to arrange one. Wonder if I can have a belated one instead this looks amazing. Thanks for linking up to Share With Me. #sharewithme
