Last summer our family took a little trip to Rutland, near Nottinghamshire, which is about an hour away from where we live. We went to stay in the gorgeous Rutland Luxury Lodges at the camping and caravan park that my mum and step-dad are actually working at right now.
I love just getting away from our house for a few days every now and then, so despite Rutland not being too far away from us it’s still lovely to have a break from all the housework and everything else at home, and these lodges were perfect for that.
The site has six lodges, with either one or two bedrooms, and each one has it’s own private, really good-sized garden with a hot tub and a sauna! The lodges are all wooden, with high ceilings and tons of space, and they are so beautiful. Every room is a really good size and done to such a high standard with so many little details and features that really make your stay more comfortable. I kept saying whilst we were there “ooh, I love how they’ve got all the little bits that are so normally missing when you go away” (I think I drove everyone a bit crazy) – those little bits that you have to deal with when you go away that just make things more of a faff – like not having a plug socket next to the bed, or enough space to hang your clothes – Rutland Luxury Lodges have all of these things.
The couple of days and nights we spent there were just so relaxing – we didn’t leave the site apart from one evening to go out for dinner, we didn’t do a lot – it was just exactly what we needed – lazy and lovely (although I did have to do some work whilst everyone else chilled out – the sods). We spent loads of time in the glorious hot tub, some of the time also with some Prosecco in our hands, which was amazing, some time just laying about on the sun loungers in the cloud/occasional sunshine and eating lots of food that’s bad for us. It was perfect.
There is an indoor pool right by the lodges which you can use for a short time each day that you stay and extra time for a small fee, which Ava absolutely loved, and for the time you have it, you have the pool all to yourself, which is amazing. There is also a park on site, which A also loved when it wasn’t chucking it down.
As I said before, there are both one and two bed lodges and both types are beautiful and slightly different in the layout as well as the size.
The two bedroom lodges would be perfect to visit with a few friends – there is a sofabed in the lounge so you could go with a few other people or some family, have a barbeque in the evening (there is one in the garden!), get a bit tipsy (safely!) in the hot tub and have loads of chilled out time.
The one bedroom lodges have a slightly different layout, with the sauna in the bathroom rather than the garden, and a lovely bath in the bedroom. The main bedroom is beautiful and would be perfect for a romantic weekend away.
We went again a couple of weeks ago for a couple of nights whilst my family from New Zealand were over here and stayed at the lodges, and it was just as perfect as last time – just a lot colder – although the underfloor heating more than made up for that! I felt completely relaxed again as soon as I was there and hugely enjoyed getting away from it all again. I really hope I get chance to go again this summer.
The location is really good – the site is close to Rutland Water where you can take a stroll around the lake and get some fresh air, as well as take part in watersports, fishing or rock climbing! The village of Greetham is really close by where there are a couple of nice pubs, and the market town of Oakham is also nearby where there are lots of shops and places to eat.
There is a shop on site at Rutland Caravan and Camping, and you buy fresh eggs from the chickens they have there (most of which are double-yolkers!).
As well as the lodges there is also camping available at Rutland Caravan and Camping – both for tents and caravans or motorhomes, as well as an adult only section.
The prices for the lodges aren’t stupidly cheap, but you really get what you pay for here, and if you were splitting the cost between a few friends or family then it makes it a really affordable short break, especially if you use the well-stocked kitchens, buy some food from the local supermarket, and take it in turns to cook.
It’s such a peaceful campsite, particularly the area with the lodges and it is just such a lovely place to be for a few days break – and to get away from it all for a short while!
We were lucky enough to be guests of the owners at Rutland Luxury Lodges, but they didn’t ask me to write this post – I just wanted to write about how good they are.
